RADIO DUBROOM 2014 CHAPTER 8

WWW, September 2014 - One hour and twenty minutes of not just pure niceness, because some of it can only be heard at this podcast and yet other selections are not yet released or released only on vinyl. This is a special selection that you just cannot afford to miss out.

The set starts with a track from the recently released Heavyweight Dubwise Selection LP, followed by a fine track with to-the-point lyrics from the Irie-On-Air Net Label. From the Original Dub Gathering another fine track with ditto Dub, followed by a track that can/could only be downloaded hundred times. This is a track about an upcoming duo-release from the Dubophonic and Dub Key Net Labels. 

The segment that follows contain two tracks from STEPPAS.com's Dub Dynasty and two from Moa Anbessa, recently reviewed in the Dubroom. All tracks with their Dub version, of course. Of course! There's one excellent Dub from the Dub Reservoir Net Label in the segment, too.

The show closes with a Discomix by Horseman and Dillinger, one by Seamus Ikonya which is on You Tube and a Discomix featuring Kojak at the microphone stand. That track has -just like the previous one- a Dub one the recently released Heavyweight Dubwise LP and is currently unreleased.

Radio Dubroom Extra Chapter 4: Rub A Dub, Let It Play!

WWW, August 2014 - Today, the music in this non-stop show would be labeled "Roots Reggae". This has not always been so: Jamaican music developed from the early to mid 1980's into a style called "Rub a Dub". Early digital technology entered the studio's, gradually replacing the old tape echo's and providing a fatter sound. Rub a Dub style, let it play!

Actually, this was the time when your selector became conscious and a lover of (DUB) Reggae Music and heard several tracks featured in this show when they first came out. Starting with the first one: a fat Dub of which a vocal track will come later in the mix ("Groove with Me"). Another Dub follows in classic Rub a Dub sound, after which Sister Carol opens with yet another fat Rub a Dub riddim that will definitely shake up the place.

And that's just the introduction.

Charlie Chaplin is next, riding a riddim while Don Carlos sings along until the Dub part. More Don Carlos, a full lyrical track of which the Dub was played at the start of the show and a classic from that era, in Discomix style. Johnny Osbourne and a Dub by Scientist, another favorite of the selector. Papa Tullo in Discomix style, with a little bit of vinyl trouble that's hardly noticeable.

Josey Wales' "Guiding Star", a favorite of Iriginal Jah Roots band drummer Imro Fedor precedes two Yellowman tracks of which the one with the long name was a hit back in the days, a success for Yellowman as well as the Volcano label that was so strong in these days. The same goes for the Frankie Paul track that's there too, War Is In The Dance or Worries in the Dance. 

Junior Murvin, Cultural Roots, John Holt, Triston Palma: they all had new releases back in the time to join the Rub a Dub sound. A sound that is often underestimated by folks who think that Reggae's His Story stopped at 1979.

To conclude, so that we'll not forget it: a classic duet by Fathead and Yellowman that gave the title to this show.

WWW, August 2014 - To illustrate the words of the Dubroom's review on Mad Professor and his countless works from his ARIWA studio's with some heavyweight power Dub sounds, here is Chapter three of Radio Dubroom Extra. This chapter contains two hours and twenty minutes of stricktly Ariwa material from the early 1980's to more recent times. 

The Mad Professor has done so many things with so many singers and players of instruments that it is impossible to claim to give a "complete overlook" or whatever. This mix, too, does not give credit enough to the works of Neil Fraser aka the Mad Professor. However, it's selected with care, and mixed in a no-nonsense style without too much extra effects and jingles and thing.

WWW, July 2014 - In the second chapter of Radio Dubroom Extra, Messian Dread plays some of his favorite Bunny Wailer tracks plus two relatively rare selections from Jah Bunny's Solomonic Sounds label. Some tracks from Dubd'sco, Rock 'n' Groove, Gumption and Rule Dance Hall plus an alternative version of Rise and Shine as well as some 12" and 7" versions. Cool Runnings!

Bunny wailer is a favorite singer of the Dubroom's webmaster even though his favorite tunes are not the ones generally considered his best. Where many love Bunny Wailer's Roots Rock a' la "In I Father's House", Messian Dread prefers the more dubby parts captured on one of his favorite albums: Rock 'n' Groove. No surprise this mix features a couple of tracks from that album. There's also a healthy portion of relatively unknown tracks by Jah Bunny and a couple of selections from his albums Gumption and Rule Dance Hall.

WWW, June 2014 - The seventh chapter of Radio Dubroom 2014 is a livication to all the Daughters of Zion, sometimes getting no attention and sometimes getting the wrong attention. Dignity and consciousness form the main vibe in the one hour and twenty-or-so minutes of this non-stop mix of Roots Reggae and Dubwise. Lots of Dubwise.

The set starts of with a Vibronics Dub, from the album Dub Italizer, a classic until this very day. Second is Lady Shelly, welcome to Canada, not in the least because of some recent publications concerning the trouble Queen Ifrica got from blind warriors fighting Rasta without knowing who they fight against. 

What follows is a selection of UK and EURO Dub and Roots, from Sweden to the UK to the Netherlands. Vibronics, Zion Train, Slimmah Sound, Dubcreator and Goldheart Music are all present. And the Mad Professor, too, with a track from the excellent "Inspirational Sounds of Mad Professor" album released through Zion Train's Universal Egg label.

Radio Dubroom 2014 Chapter 6: Anti-Racist Dubs 'n' Steppers

WWW, June 2014 - Another selection of stricktly heavyweight Steppers coming your way! Featuring some recently reviewed Net Label releases, a healthy portion of UK DUB and Roots, a Lyrical Benjie classic from Dubcreator's MP3. com days and two recent Dubroom productions, one of which is not released and perhaps might not be released so this mix could very well be the only opportunity to hear it.

Starting off with a no-nonsense track by Canada's Dub maestro Dubmatix, taken from a free compilation recently reviewed in the Dubroom. Also reviewed on mp3.dubroom.org is the brand new anti-racist Vocal and Dub by Yeyo Perez and the Bass Culture Players from Spain. Mr Bossman Dub by Dub Machinist is als taken from the free "Lost in Dub Chapter 1" compilation.

Next segment contains a selection of vocals and dubs released through Zion Train's labels Deep Root and Universal Egg. With the exception of Dr. Dubious and Sister Verdiana - Stone In the Wall Dub, which was taken from the third chapter of the excellent Italian Dub Community Showcase series.

Lyrical Benjie is no stranger to the Dubroom visitors. The Netherlands-based Roots Singer is a veteran vocalist, and to listen to his conscious lyrics over a Vibronics and a Dubcreator track is a blessing for the soul. Hopefully, the trtack you can hear straight after the Dub of "Ten Plagues" gives you a good vibe as well, since this is a track taken from the fresh mixes in the Dubroom studio. As you may or may not know, there's hard work going on in establishing a new sound, well, this is just one Dub out of many that may or may not be released later. Just listen to the track, and -when you want- give a little feedback. This is also welcome for the Dub from Dennis Alcapone's "Got To Be Conscious", by the way. That one track can be downloaded for free.

Again, Izyah Davis and Fullness. Taken from the album "Arise" (reviewed in the Dubroom), this show features the title track. A superb track of which we play the vocal and the Dub. Closing off, two crucial Dubs by the UK based Nucleus Roots collective. Massive, heavyweight!

The set opens up with a track from the download archives of yours truly: this one was available for download on the website from the (Netherlands based) producer Robert Curiel back in the previous century. It's a Dub full of vibes, just like the second one by Sheya Mission and the 1975 7" release by what many consider to be the first Roots Reggae band in the UK. 

Continueing with another rare vinyl single with Michael Prophet and a healthy portion of Dub re-released through the Blood and Fire label. Mchael Rose forms a bridge to more recent material, that is, from the last decade or so. Crucial material from Twilight Circus, Mad Professor, Slimmah Sound, Don Fe, and the new Dubroom release featuring Dennis Alcapone.

Chapter five of Radio Dubroom 2014 is also the first mix done using the new hardware here in the Dubroom, a rather exciting thing to do but that's for another occasion.

The set opens up with Michael Rose's "Warrior" and Dub, followed by Fred Locks singing "Won't Give Up".  These are all releases by the Canadian but Netherlands based Dub producer Twilight Circus. Check them out at www.twilightcircus.com. Nucleus Roots and Talking Dog, both located in the UK give some crucial sounds before we return to yet another Dub with Michael Rose from the Twilight Circus.

Two selections from Universal Egg's release "The Inspirational Sounds of Mad Professor" prelude a special mix of the recently released "His Imperial Dubwise" riddim by your's truly, which you can only hear in this podcast and is not available for download or streaming on any site.

The second half of this chapter opens with Moa Anbessa's excellent "Education" riddim. Presented both in Dub and in the Vocal version, which is the same with Shade of Black's perfect track "Conspiracy". Vibronics and I-mitri from a free album which will soon be reviewed in the Dubroom follows, and some material by the Maltese Net Label DUB KEY. "Dub the Streets" by the Bass Culture Players is next, while the show closes off with a solid Steppers by Mixman and D Maximillian.

WWW, April 2014 - An ultra rare 12" by Misty in Roots, an equally out of print and hard to get 7" by Brimstone and a perhaps even more rare DUB from the online community by Kwame: just three highlights out of the third chapter of Radio Dubroom 2014. Over one and a half hour of heavyweight sounds of the Singers and Players of Instruments, including the mixing board.

The set opens up with a selection of older UK Roots Reggae and DUB. As the history of Reggae in the UK is as old as the music itself, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to find out all kinds of historic recordings that have gone lost in the memory holes of just too many people. Misty in Roots' excellent 12" "Salvation (Discomix)" and Brimstone's 7" "Final Judgement/Final Dub" are two of them.

WWW, April 2014 - Serious DJ chanting by Tappa Zukie, Prince Fari, U Brown, Dillinger and Trinity. Essential singers , too: Michael Prophet, Linvall Thompson, Prince Alla, Junior Ross, Cornell Campbell, Horace Andy as well as Yabby You and the Prophets (who gave the title to this chapter). That is, next to the necessary heavyweight DUB mixing by none other than King Tubby, Prince Jammy, Ernest Hoo Kim and others. This is the second chapter of Radio Dubroom 2014!

The set starts off with an introduction DUB carrying the vocals of Michael Prophet. Linvall Thompson continues to set the tone with an excellent Discomix, just before a vocal, DJ and DUB by Yabby You, the Prophets, Trinity and King Tubby's. Thunder and lightning!

The second part is reserved for the DJ's. Roots and culture, chant it out and chant it loud loud: this is what Tappa Zukie, U Brown and other are doing and they are doing it on some heavyweight DUB fe true.

Heavyweight DUB is the topic of the third part: steppers and one drop rhythms with thunderous bass lines and skillful manual DUB mixing. This is not old skool style, this is old skool!

The last and fourth part of the set is a combination of singers doing their work and the DUB engineers doing the same: That's right: time for chapter and version, Discomixes, A and B sides combined. Horace Andy, Prine alla, Junior Ross and Cornell Campbell are there.

WWW, March 2014 -  In this extra long chapter, Radio Dubroom returns with a strong selection of DUB and ROOTS. Almost two and a half hour of meditations, drum and bass lines, DUB mixing, everything selected and mixed in a non-stop experience for your listening pleasure.

The show starts off with a healthy portion of productions by the excellent Dutch producer Slimmah Sound, carrying the vocals of Kyle Sicarues and Lyrical Benjie. The latter, by the way, has some great web plates on his website of which we also play one ("Because You Don't Know"). 

Right after the deep DUB by Achille Studio, it's straight forward to a selection of some old and new tunes by UK based Vibronics and Russ D. Both are heavyweight producers and you can tell by merely listening to their works along with such vocalists as the sistren Dayjah and Sena, Kyle Sicarues (again) and Chezidek. Some vocals, many dubs, and you may have noticed the change into Steppers during this portion of the show.

Right after the Mad Professor, it's time for a BRAND NEW RELEASE BY STEPPAS RECORDS: ALPHA and OMEGA's THINGS GET HOTTER. A powerful tune indeed, consider that this is just one tune of the great new release. Check it out! Also check out the release by IZYAH DAVIS AND FULLNESS REVIEWED RIGHT HERE AT THE DUBROOM, of which you can hear two vocal and two DUB tracks. Stuff to consider indeed.

Some other tracks worth mentioning are Jah Rej's "Return of the Dub Man", a remake of an ancient MP3.com classic and ODG's "DUB Worries" which is a hard hitting steppers with vibes you just cannot miss. 

Be sure to get this chapter of Radio Dubroom, preferably play it loud with lots of bass and neighbors that like some crucial Dub and Roots Vibrations.
