This video -as well as the audio- contains historical footage that has -perhaps unfortunately- lost not one ounce in relevance. It contains a message for all, but since this was taken from a speech in front of world wide evangelists there is an extra dimension for those (that claim to be) Born Again Christians and yet can only come with negative statements concerning His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I Of Ethiopia.

Here are some questions, adressed in the music and even stronger in the video:

Why is it that your average Christian can only say about the Emperor, that he "is not God"? Could it be the propaganda machine of the "Christian Industry" that tries to keep it's customers -the faithfull- far away from the Freedom Sounds called Reggae Music and the knowledge about the Ethiopian Connection in the Bible? Could it be the result of a form of racism that claims how there is a "Judeo-Christian Civilization" in what the Rastaman and many others have rightly identified as Babylon System? Could it be, that a true "Judeo-Christian" Civilization has existed almost from the day our Lord was crucified and rose again?

Where Ethiopia is mentioned almost at the first page of the Bible and in many passages afterwards, a pattern arises that can not be ignored by serious scholars of the Holy Scriptures.

Moses' wife was Ethiopian and Jah punished the racists who protested against that marriage.

The first official representant of any government that heard and accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ was the Ethiopian Noble Man, who brought back the gospel to a country that was already serving the Most High through the knowledge of King Solomon.

Talking about a real "Judeo-Christian Civilization"!

And so, this video is many things.

First and foremost, this is a wake up call for all born again Christians who think that they are serving God when they denegrate Haile Selassie. Where only portions of Billy Graham's introduction of Haile Selassie to an audience of world-wide evangelists back in 1966 is used, listening to the whole speech (without music) would definitely break down that wall of ignorance even more.

In the same time, this is a wake-up call for those that think Rastafari and Christian livity do not go together or worse: must fight each other. You know who you are, warriors in what is definitely not the good fight even though you might think you are fighting the good fight.

Equally, this video is a livication (rather than a deadication) to all people of all colour who do fight the good fight. The fight against racial injustice, the spiritual fight against spiritual wickedness in high places.

A livication to Billy Graham, who back in 1966 introduced Haile Selassie as "Chief of State who can greet us in the Name of Jesus Christ". In a time where in his own "christian" country apartheid and "christianity" was seen as similar, Billy Graham pointed to a different direction. Book Review: Dread Jesus (Spencer)

This is the book that I have been waiting for, for a very a long time, so I can't really express my happiness with it's existence. It is a must read for every Jesus Dread and others interested in the relationship between Rastafari and Christianity.

The writer explores "Rastafarian Christology", by analyzing many reggae songs, interviewing many known and lesser known Rastafarians, and studying the history of Rastafari.

He finds out, that there are two main streams within Rastafari, one is inspired by Hindu and esoterically teachings, while the other group is heading towards Christianity more and more, even to such an extend that brother William describes the possibility of a "Selassian Church", as a denomination next to Lutheran and the like.

Well documented and thoroughly investigated, this book is blessed to be a good source for forming your own opinion.

I would recommend it especially for those Christians that always were told, that all Rastafarians believe in Selassie as God, as it explains the various interpretations about Yesus Kristos that exist within the movement.

Dread Jesus also contains a testimony from sistren Judy Mowatt, former member of Bob Marley & the Wailer's backing trio "the I-Threes". You can read how she described the process in her life that made her come to the conclusion that Selassie is not Yesus Kristos, and some struggles and blessings that she has experienced during these times.

This is one of the first Christian publications on Rastafari that does not contain the bias prejudice that you find so rampant in the Christian World. It's not yet another cheap description of a movement supposedly existing of weird herb smokers with long uncombed hair.

Haile Selassie's Christianity is described and studied. His relationship with the evangelical world, where well known Christian Evangelist Billy Graham invited His Majesty to open a congress in Berlin in 1966, an invitation accepted by Haile Selassie.

You can read portions of the speech that HIM held in front of 1000's of evangelical Christians, a speech not often quoted.

Good for reading, good for studying, good for meditation, good for having as resource, I want to big up this book for it can be a blessing for all Jesus Dreads worldwide.

Book Review: Chanting Down Babylon - The Rastafari Reader (Spencer, ed.)

This is the book on Rastafari for everyone who is misinformed about the movement. Especially Christians who have thus far only read Christian "exposé's" on Rastafari will benefit significantly from the information in Chanting Down Babylon.

William David Spencer is one of the few Christian writers I know with an objective view on Rastafari. His book "Dread Jesus" has become a must read for all those who are interested in Rastafari and Christianity. Simply because of the valuable interviews and analyses it contains.

Chanting Down Babylon is arguably even more relevant.

Where Spencer wrote his book Dread Jesus all by himself, in this one he is editor and contributor. Several writers from different backgrounds all contributed to what can surely be called a standard work on Rastafari.

For example: it contains original Rastafarian books. They have never been made available for a large audience before, in spite of their absolute essentiality. Chanting Down Babylon will introduce the reader to these writings, such as "The Promised Key". And with that, of course, provides the reader with some of the meditations that gave birth to this movement.

But it goes beyond that.

As said, there are several contributors to this work. The variety of their perspectives guarantees an objective picture for the reader, who is introduced to a dynamic culture.

The book explains why, in the words of Rasta group Culture, "Babylon can't study the Rastaman". Indeed, Babylon will never be able to overstand. But there is simply too much sense in Chanting Down Babylon for all others to be ignored.

So forget about all these so called "Christian Studies" about Rastafari. Forget about the anthropological and psychological "analyses". None of them truly describe Rastafari. They only make the Rastaman sing that Culture song once again.

Chanting down Babylon gives a true perspective on the movement. Because all the words in this 467 page book are written by people who know the movement inside out and some have even been there when it all started.

I came across a website that will surely illustrate just why I am so disgusted by "obama worship tunes".

Anyway, we now know where to go for the right clothing when we want to visit concerts by certain artists.

Forget about Obama's plan to kill more people in Afghanistan. Forget about him talking about "amerika's purpose to lead the world". Forget how he keeps George Bush's choice of leader of the army and forget how he has Hilary Clinton and the rest of the Klintonites.

Just wear this "amerikan apperal" (sic) and you will be wearing the uniform needed for the contemporary verion of the Hitler-youth, who will surely chasten all conscious Rasta and Dreadlocks that DO make a stand against the madness.

I observe what happens, and it doesn't look good. Some people better wake up now.

As for me, I know that with Obama the Babylonians are making it clear just who are the real revolutionairies and who are the merchandaries.

There is a lot of work to do for Conscious Rasta's and Dreads, as this matter is more serious than we (including myself) realize.

"HAILE SELASSIE IS NOT GOD"?

WWW, January 2008 - This morning, when I checked out the feedback on the Dubroom, it happened again: "Haile Selassie Is Not God", some comment read.

Haile Selassie means "Power of the Trinity". Obviously, for Christians it is not so difficult to identify the Lord God and Saviour Yesus Kristos, because is it not so that He told us: "Unto Me is given all power in Heaven and on Earth"?

But this self-proclaimed Christian who wrote the comment on the Dubroom, was not denying that.

He, or she, was referring to the Ethiopian Emperor Tafari Makonnen, who was crowned Haile Selassie in the 1930's. And to the fact that many, but not all, within the Movement named after Ras (Head) Tafari, believe that this Ethiopian Emperor is in fact what his name and title mean.

The Ethiopian Emperor himself, however, never claimed to be what his names and titles mean. In fact, he strongly denied being Jah and boldly proclaimed to be a Christian himself. The Emperor did make claims of being a descendant of King David, though, a claim that many believe to be true.

In spite of popular belief, not all Rasta's believe the Ethiopian Emperor to be God, either.

Take Gadman, the leader of the biggest Rasta Organization in the world. In an interview with Jamaican Radio Station IRE FM, he made statements concerning the fact that he made a differentiation between the Emperor and Jesus Christ and how one could only be saved by the Blood of Jesus Christ.

Yours truly is also of the belief that the Ethiopian Emperor is not what his names mean, which is widely known. Being the transcriber of the authorized transcription of Gadman's interview, being the Webmaster of a website where the Emperor can be heard denying he is Jah, I can hardly be "accused" of believing His Imperial Majesty to be JAH.

So, what made this person write that comment which provoked this article? An answer may be found in a comment on yet another website, where someone posted the following description of me:

The comment was made by a self-proclaimed Christian who apparantly did not agree with statements I made concerning Michael Tsarion, a New Age propagandist and apologist for such evil men as Aleister Crowley.

Apart from the fact that for the sake of this article it is not so important who Michael Tsarion is and so on, it is interesting to read the ad hominem argument as it came. If you can't win the argument, you start attacking the person and this time I was being accused for being a "Rastafarian".

It's very interesting, to read how apparantly "being a Rastafarian" is a reason for a self-proclaimed "Christian" to not listen to what I have to say.

What is so wrong about "being a Rastafarian"?

Sure, it could very well be that this person's admitted refusal to check out just what I am saying led her or him to the idea that I somehow believe the Ethiopian Emperor to be Jah. "Don't confuse me with the facts", I read between the lines there...

However, since Zeph Daniel was mentioned, I do not necessarily jump to that conclusion easily.

Zeph Daniel is a talk show host, among many other things, and I have appeared on his radio show a couple of times. I explained how not all Rasta's believe the Emperor to be what his names mean and therefore you cannot define the Movement of Rastafari as a religion based on worship of the Ethiopian Emperor.

Just like many Arab people believe in the god of Islam, Allah, not all Arabs do. Therefore, to say that all Arabs are Muslims is an untrue statement and yet a variation on that theme can be found time and time again in statement and comments from self-proclaimed Christians on what they claim are "Rastafarians".

So, it could be that the self-proclaimed Christian did not want to be confused with the facts about the Movement and person of Rastafari and simply chose to attack me for who I am rather than what I have to say.

That would definitely explain the comment I read this morning.

However, I have also noticed that within certain self-proclaimed "Christian" circles, it is not enough to deny the Emperor to be Jah anyway.

Simply speaking positively about the Emperor, can provoke an "anathema". Trying to place his personality and function in a biblical perspective because of the Davidic bloodline, is being seen as "worshipping" too.

"Haile Selassie Is Not God", is the message. The one-and-only message, so it seems!

Don't even bother moving forward by trying to find out just who he is, since he is not Jah. Don't try pointing out to the special place Ethiopia has in the Bible, either.

What is it, that makes self-proclaimed Christians curse the Emperor and Rastafarians regardless as to whether they believe the Emperor to be Jah or not?

It is my strong conviction, that this has everything to do with something that "all" Rastafarians would agree to.

For it is not so, that all Rastafarians believe the Ethiopian Emperor to be JAH, as just a little bit of research will reveal to every genuine seeker of Truth. The Dubroom website is actually ministering to these very seekers of Truth by providing nuff evidence to proof the undeniable fact.

But there are definitively things that "all" Rastafarians would agree to, things not in agreement with "Christian Correctness" as defined by the western forms of organized "Christianity" and it's offshoots.

One of these things is the identification of what is usually called "Western Judeo-Christian Civilization" as "Babylon System". In addition to that, "all Rastafarians" would identify Haile Selassie's Ethiopia as a true Judeo-Christian culture or civilization!

By doing so, Rastafarians express a total rejection of a paradigm that is so prominent within the structures of western Christianity. A paradigm that dictates people to defend a Church-and-State system responsible for keeping people in mental slavery ever since the Roman emperor Constantine "legalized" "Christianity" in 325 AD or thereabout.

The European colonialism that followed in itself can be traced back to the destroyed foundations of the ancient Tower-of-Babel, a fact that is often used by New Age "researchers" such as Michael Tsarion and Jordan Maxwell in order to discredit what they will call "Christianity".

These propagandists will point out to the alleged Christianity of warmongering presidents and popes as some kind of definitive proof that Yesus Kristos and His Message of Salvation is to be rejected as fiction. Self-proclaimed Christians will confirm this idea by basically agreeing with the identification of "Christianity" and apply bizarre reasoning to defend these self-proclaimed Christian downpressors.

The Movement of Rastafari definitely takes a separate position in all of this.

Founded in Jamaica by descendants of Africans whose fore parents were taken as slaves on ships that had names like "Jesus", the early Rastafarians knew too well how the Jesus that was worshipped by their slave masters could never be the real Most High God and Creator.

They knew, that -unlike Europe- Ethiopia or Africa is mentioned in the Bible straight from the start, where it is listed as being part of the Garden of Eden. They knew, that -unlike Europe- the first church outside of Israel was located in this very same Ethiopia, as this very same Bible tells us through the Book of Acts.

This particular knowledge is spelled out in the very same Bible that the Babylonians who defend their Church-and-State system as "Judeo-Christian" claim to uphold. The Bible makes it very clear, how the Good Lord God Jah looks on that system as a "Beast" and in especially the last book, called Revelation or the Apocalypse, even announces it's ultimate destruction at the very return of Jesus Christ.

Still, we see people who claim to be Christian, who claim to know all about the Divine Saviour and believe themselves to be Born Again through His Holy Spirit, strongly defending a system that is so clearly condemned by the Most High God Himself!

Their only comment about a true Judeo-Christian king who himself pointed out to Yesus Kristos continually, and about a Movement inspired by this Emperor to be prophetic voices in the identification of the western "Judeo-Christian" civilization as Babylon and her upcoming downstruction, is one of utter and total rejection.

Instead of moving forward after realizing how -indeed- the Ethiopian Emperor is not Jesus Christ by trying to discover just who he was if not Jah, these self-proclaimed Christians team up with New Age researchers such as Michael Tsarion and write totally irrelevant and unnecessary comments about the Dubroom and the writings of yours truly.

They are obviously offended when their beloved "Judeo-Christian" system is identified for what she really is!

It's really not about worshipping the Emperor as God. It has been sufficiently proven how not all Rastafarians worship the Emperor as God and therefore that particular belief cannot be used to describe a whole Movement, so there is another reason why Rasta is attacked by self-proclaimed Christians.

I believe, it has to do with identification.

We can hear time and time again, how the West is supposedly built on "Judeo-Christian values and morals", how for example the founding father of the United States of America were supposed to be Christian and how very Christian the constitution of these United States is supposed to be.

Or we can hear it in the absurd claims of the European royal bloodlines that claim descendance from Jesus Christ and wear supposed Christian symbology in order to "proof" their case.

Self-proclaimed Christians who have an allegiance with this system we have identified as Babylon, will usually get very mad and angry whenever their beloved system is exposed for the antichrist shitstem that she really is.

Just like their fore parents who went to Africa as "teachers" of what they called "Christianity" to the "undeveloped savages", they will continue exposing their superiority complex to those "pot smoking, emperor-worshipping Jamaican hippies" and not only refuse to check out things for themselves, but perpetuate the myth of a "Judeo-Christian" Babylon.

I think, that it is time for everyone who truly know themselves to be born again through the Holy Spirit to actually start finding the truth out for themselves rather than relying on so-called "researchers" with their pack of lies to attack a Christianity that has nothing to do with the true Message of Yesus Kristos.

I think, that it is time for every self-proclaimed "Christian" to check out just what I am writing about the Emperor, about Yesus, rather than perpetuating lies about Rastafari and insults to a Christian brother who happened to be Emperor of Ethiopia and chose the name "Power of the Trinity" to express who he was really worshipping!

Muta Baruka: A New Faculty of Interpretation (Plus Comments)

Greetings, the following article is written by Muta Baruka and might be interesting to read and/or comment on.

Is the bible the Word of God? Most reggae musicians - Rastafarian or otherwise - accept that it is. Like any other Jamaicans, we were all taught to believe that there was no teaching of morality or history outside of the bible. In writing this article, I am aware that it might go against the perception of you, the reader. May you keep an open, searching mind as you continue reading my reasonings.

When Rastafarians began the quest to find Self, the only book that was available to us was the bible and so the totality of what we understood to be true was based primarily on interpretation of this book. Even the idea of Haile Selassie as an afrikan God was justified and validated by the bible. We, as afrikan people brought here from afrika under inhumane conditions, were forced to live - even now - without any kind of identity. This was also justified through the bible by the European invaders and those afrikans who sought to rationalize this enslavement by declaring that this was an Act of God. The influence of this book runs deep. Over the years, Rastafarians declare themselves to be Israelites as referred to in the Old Testament, so that words and phrases such as Zion, Promised Land, the wicked Pharaoh and Jah became part of the language of the Rastafarian movement.

What I am really trying to say here, is that our own religious knowledge goes back no further than the 6,000 year history presented by this bible, (from Genesis to the beginning of this century, according to the bible, is 6,000 years). History and archeological evidence prove Ethiopia and Egypt existed thousands of years beyond that - much, much more than a mere 6,000 years.


Rastafarians have been very influential because of our music and cultural practices. For Rastafarians to move forward in this time, we will have to go beyond the bible, we can no longer continue to justify Haile Selassie’s divinity through the Davidic link. Ethiopia existed thousands of years before Abraham walked out of the Ur of the Chaldees. Even Egypt, which as been demonized by the authors of the Old Testament, existed thousands of years before Israel.

We can not continue to close out other information that is not in line with the bible. The bible is just one set of peoples’ understanding of human behavior and personality. The events recorded in the bible are on the periphery of afrikan knowledge. Stories recorded in the bible have their genesis in other indigenous people’s folk tales. What we are taking as history is other people’s mythology.

In Ethiopia, whether by
design or accident, the Church has not gone beyond the story of Solomon and
Sheba to justify Ethiopia’s presence in history. We can clearly see that there was a deliberate attempt to erase the feminine representation of Ethiopia’s personality and this resulted in a rise in a system of patriarchy that was very alien to afrikan culture. One would conclude that Ethiopia’s religious beginning starts with the union of Makeda and Solomon, but the only information received about Makeda is that she worshiped the sun and that she conceived for Solomon.
The significance of the Queen of Sheba’s visit to Solomon is very important in validating Ethiopia’s link with a Jewish heritage because this is used to substantiate Ethiopia’s true monarchy and lso the Godhead linkage.

A return to the feminine principle is very important in the unraveling of our ancient spirituality. What we have professed has helped us so far, but it’s up to us to now move it further. We can no longer be like Christian fundamentalists - or Islamic fundamentalists for that matter - who are stuck in a history that does not provide them with an understanding of new thoughts and new life styles. We are living in a new era of information - a time when one can travel from London to New York in three hours, when one can click a switch and illuminate a stadium filled with thousands of people, a time when a person committing a crime in one part of the world can be viewed instantaneously in another through modern technology. This is the age of information, but inspiration without information sometimes leads to superstition.

Given what I know now, I refuse to accept this limited view of Ethiopia and its contribution to world spirituality because this view has stagnated our concept of religion in afrika and how we relate to other cultures. I refuse to keep validating my perception of the divinity of Haile Selassie through an Israelite god. Ideas of emperors being gods existed long before the presence of the Israelites in Egypt. We, as Rastafarians, can find the essence of our spirituality in an Ethiopia and Egypt void of Israelite interpretation.

We are the creators of our destiny, we are the shapers of our future and our spirituality must reflect this new faculty of interpretation. We must not be afraid of the deep. Rastafari can only continue if we who profess this faith, understand that afrikan philosophy and Afrikan spirituality cannot be bound into any book.

Our need to understand each other and our environment is very crucial in the rationalization
of our existence. This can only be realized through clarity of perception. Religion does not offer clarity. What religion offers is a perception and this perception comes through belief. This belief comes through faith and, as we know, faith is not knowledge. Faith is what we would like our perception to be or not to be. Haile Selassie declares, "We must not confuse Spirituality with Religion." Rastafari must not be bound by religious perceptions because this will cause stagnation of the movement and thereby create fundamentalism. We must be open to the different cultures of afrika and not demonize them because of biblical interpretations.

The journey is never-ending and the race is not for the swift. There are many rivers to cross and so much trouble in the world. We will have to wake up and live! Rastafari must continue to rock the boat with a new faculty of interpretation.

I have a lot of respect for Muta Baruka, because he is not afraid to sound his voice and say the politcal incorrect thing that must be said.

So when I respond by expressing my disagreement with the article, I will do so in a thoughtfull way. I think Muta wrote this article as a start of a debate or reasoning, and as he apologizes when he "might go against the perception of the reader", I too apologize in advance for having to respond in disagreement as well.

I think, that Muta takes a few preconceptions which are not accurate. For example, he says the history written in the Bible is only 6000 years old. Well, the first three words of the Bible ("In the beginning") would place the Bible older than these 6000 years if the earth was older (and I believe it is).

He says, that "Egypt is older than Israel", which indicates that Muta believes the Old Testament to be the "History of Israel". Well, it's not. The Bible is the total history of creation, and we don't know how old creation is. Muta refers to scientifical ideas around the age of the earth and so on, but these ideas are all based on western conceptions mistakenly called "science".

Muta says that the "Church" (whatever that may be) doesn't look beyond Solomon and Sheba in their sighting of Ethiopia. That maybe true, but Muta forgets that Ethiopia is mentioned in the very first page of the Bible.

He then continues by establishing that (emph. mine) "For Rastafarians to move forward in this time, we will have to go beyond the bible, we can no longer continue to justify Haile Selassie’s divinity through the Davidic link".

In my opinnion, Muta is very right in his statement that in order to see the Ethiopian Emperor as Divine or "God", one has to "move beyond the Bible". I would like to add, one would have to go pass HIM's own statements. The fact that HIM has left the visible spectrum (some say he died) is another reason why -indeed, in my words- His Majesty can not be seen as the/an Incarnation of the God described in the Bible. So I agree with Muta here, even though our conclusions are quite different and show in my idea our (pre)conceptions.

It's all about, how do we define God or "The Divine"? One could look to it from what is usually called a Biblical Perspective, one can also adhere to a Pagan perspective or one can have a view just like the Hindu's have ("The Force").

I disagree with Mutabaruka, that just because it turns out that HIM cannot be "Biblically" seen as JAH, we must therefore turn to other sources that do confirm what is conceived.

His own definition of God, as he says "The feminine aspect", is his own. It's based on his conceptions. To say that these conceptions are "older than the Bible" is absurd, in my opinnion. I have started my reply by giving counter-argumentation against the arguments Muta gives in order to "move beyond the Bible" so to speak. When the Bible speaks about "in the beginning" (of Creation, whichever age is might be), there is nothing "before the Bible".

It's about: do we recognize there is a Creator, a Person, apart from His Creation? Was everything created by itself or by an external Creator?

It's obvious, and I recommend Muta for this too, that he is not claiming to "know it all". He says, that would make him like "fundamentalists". I don't think there's anything wrong with being a fundamentalist, for it means: "standing on a foundation". Where there is no foundation, how can there be a building? Any storm will take it away.

So what I see in this article is not so much a new idea, but a recognition of the fact that because of several reasons, HIM (His Imperial Majesty) can indeed not be seen as "God" in the "Biblical sense".

Within Rastafari, there has allways been -if you will- two streams. One is of a more Othodox Christian weay, the other is more of an Esotheric way. It's obvious, that these two exclude each other's concepts of "God/Divine".

Our doctrines concerning God/The Divine therefore are not identifyings us as being (or not being) Rastas.

I do think, that those who are more of the Orthodox Christian thought, will more and more turn to the belief that HIM is not JAH, but an Ikon of Christ. And those who are more esoptheric, will see the fact that Haile Selassie left the visible spectrum in the context that HIM was "only showing us that we are all divine".

I don't think, that either two of the streams should call the other "non-African". Both streams are based on a poisitive look to HIM and what HIM said. HIM was a supporter of the Bible and Christianity. If only for that reason alone, we should not call eachother "non-African" in our believes when we follow a more Christian way or a more esotheric way?
