"THE KING OF DUB" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 8 2009 - In today's edition of Dubroom Online we have a review of Gregory Isaac's "warning". It was produced by King Tubby in what was then a time wherein the digital technology entered the Jamaican Studio's.

It's a side of King Tubby that not many people know of, at least, not many would associate the King Of DUB with digital Dancehall in the tradition that one of his apprentices would make popular with the Sleng-Teng riddim.

Unfortunately, though, we will never know just what King Tubby would eventually have done, as he was in that time also planning to build his own studio where he could factually record musicians.

A bullet from a gun made an end to his life, before we could know...

"MORE REGGAE SOUNDS" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 7 2009 - As I'm preparing the Dubroom for the month of November, I can say that Jah Willing there will be some very interesting MP3's waiting for you to be downloaded to your computer.

Today we start a short series of a couple of tracks by Jamaican singer Enos Mc Leod, to be followed by some hard hitting UK Roots from the man called Jah Free, after which we'll spend seven days with Edi Fitzroy, a remarkable singer who surely put his name on the Reggae map "back in the days" when he teamed up with Mikey Dread.

As it looks now, Jah Willing the Dubroom will have December as Mikey Dread month, a month wherein you will not only be able to download an impressive amount of free and legal MP3 files, but also learn more about the Dread At The Controls.

"NOW (DUB) REGGAE" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 6 2009 - Today, the Dubroom features three contemporary styles of Reggae. Two free and legal MP3's that are reviewed and can be downloaded straight from the review pages, and an artist page, all representing what you could loosely call "Now (DUB) Reggae)".

First of all, we've got Beat Pharmacy. Contemporary Dance Music from the USA which has just too much elements of Dub and Reggae to ignore.

Then we've got our last MP3 from Nucleus Roots, a Dub and Reggae collective from the UK which should get much more recognition than it currently gets.

And thirdly, the new Dancehall phenomenon Vybz Kartel, whose brand new release "Pon Di Gaza" was featured in the Dubroom in the form of a couple of free and legal MP3's.

Reggae surely came from a long way, and the music is not about to turn dead either!

He would continue, for example to write for Bounty Killer and others, and by releasing a number of tunes under a number of names. Only then did he decide to continue under the name Vybz Kartel, a household name in Dancehall business.

WWW, November 5 2009 - These last months, it's all about crucial free and legal MP3's in the Dubroom. Not just the Dubroom Online MP3 Reviews, but also MP3 specials wherein the works of a specific artist is highlighted every day for a certain period, just like Nucleus Roots in this time.

Pretty soon, I will have to make the decision as to whether the Dubroom Online MP3 Reviews will continue after January 1st or not. That doesn't mean there won't be no more reviews, though, as there's just too much which is yet unreviewed by the Dubroom.

I'm definitely, Jah Willing of course, going to have a Mikey Dread MP3 special very soon, preferably this month.

WWW, November 4 2009 - During my web browsing sessions, where I'm looking for music to review for the Dubroom, lately I am especially interested in the French Dub bands and Net Labels that surfaced during these last years.

There are so many bands, producers and labels that it is really fair to speak about a French DUB Movement, so interesting that it approaches a fine second place on the Global DUB Map, where the UK stood at a lonely heights until the Internet gave rise to other movements like the Online (DUB) Reggae Artists.

Take No More Babylon, a French band which backs up Jamaican singers during their tours in France. This band needs more recognition than it currently gets, globally.

After all, it's all about Le Dub, Monsieur!

"US DUB?" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 3 2009 - Listen to "Scratch to Win" by Ticklah, it's featured in today's edition of Dubroom Online. The Dub is crucial, the music is too, and the fact that Ticklah comes from the US says a thing there.

While in America, I witnessed how different the musical styles and preferences are when it comes to Reggae Music. I witnessed how Dub is still to rise up in ways that the style has already achieved in Europe, especially the UK although France is a good second.

However, with engineers like Ticklah and the Canadian based Dubmatix, I do foresee the possibility that in an overseeable future, Dub could very well claim it's place in the North American continent.

Will there ever be such a thing as a clear, distinctive style of Dub like UK DUB? A US DUB, if you will?

Together with artists like Tony Rebel, Sizzla and others, Determine brought back Jah Rastafari in the Dance and keeps the flame burning until now.

"AUTUMNAL REFLECTIONS" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 2 2009 - As the leaves are turning into all kinds of colors before they fall off the trees in this season of autumn, I'm slowly shaking off the stress of the fact that these last two years I've been really busy traveling up and down to another continent as a part of some really crucial developments in my personal life.

I notice just how much energy everything took, and I notice how grateful I can be that I have been through this.

Why?

Nobody does a thing for two years, especially not when it is so enervating that it includes having to deal with situations like being questioned for three hours at airports just for being a dread, even a dread "from Amsterdam", for nothing.

I didn't either...

So yes, I thank Jah that I can again focus on the Dubroom Studio, basically living and working, but this time I have a much stronger foundation than I ever had before.
