Dubroom Online, Edition December 15 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (14)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 15 2009 - By getting the possibility to put so many crucial music on-site, the Dubroom's MP3 portal had the biggest clean-up in it's history.

I had to move the pages of around 100 artists into the MP3 Museum. The musical works that were reviewed were no longer online, mostly because they had their music on an OMD like download.com or mp3.com and these sites went offline.

Fortunately, in the same time, the portal was rebuild and now you can find names there like Sugar Minott, Scientist, Frankie Paul, and many more. Mind you: the portal is still under construction and will remain to be very interesting to visit.

Jah Willing, that is.

Dubroom Online, Edition December 14 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (13)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 14 2009 - After a hiatus and a close-to-nervous- breakdown situation in the summer of 2009, in which the Dubroom was hardly updated, August saw the beginning of what would become the major theme of the Dubroom until the end of this year: free and legal MP3's, loads and loads and even more loads of free and legal (DUB) Reggae MP3's.

First of all, we discovered EZTRACKS which is nice, but more important: the Dubroom acquired access to a large collection of free and legal mp3's, under which hundreds of Reggae tunes.

From the middle of August to the end of December, the Dubroom featured several MP3's on a daily basis.

Dubroom Online, Edition December 13 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (12)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 13 2009 - In the summer of this year, I was at the edge of a nervous break-down. Couldn't eat or drink, would be worrying and doing things all day, and it all had to do with some very intense things going on in my private life.

It was so happy that even though I took a month off from Dubroom, I was unable to update the site even for a week after that and when I could, all I could was writing an update basically explained how I was unable to do a thing.

For two years, I had to deal with all kind of official people and organizations, in different countries and with different functions. The climax came in the summer as many delayed things came on my desktop together with things planned for that time as well...

Not to mention the things that came before they were planned...

WWW, December 2009 - Black Supremacy For Africa takes us back to the times we know as the 1980's: the system of Apartheid in South-Africa was still in it's political place and the Racist State still had Nelson Mandela in jail rather than in the president's office.

Dubroom Online, Edition December 12 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (11)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 12 2009 - Quality is always better than quantity, this also goes for the Dubroom Message Boards. Something which I call "on-topicness" is in my idea a minimal quality requirement that needs no further explanation.

Currently, the membership-list of the Dubroom Message Boards is not big but overall the quality of postings are on-topic and on an interesting level.

Only a few threads turned out to be off-topic, even though at first this wasn't clear. Of course, not everyone who says "Lord, Lord" shall enter into Mount Zion and not everyone who says "Reggae" actually talks about the musical works and culture which is promoted on the Dubroom website.

So I stand corrected there.

Dubroom Online, Edition December 11 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (10)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 11 2009 - The fact one has to apply in order to be manually added to the Dubroom Message Boards membership-list, a lot of trolls and cyber bullies will be prevented from being able to mash up a thread or even complete fora.

It happened a number of times since the Dubroom Message Boards moved from Xsorbit to Yuku: One person was banned, two applications denied.

All three of these persons did make clear, in some way or another, that they would post off-topic material as the topic of the Dubroom is a positive attitude towards the promotion of (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness, preferably both. In normal language, they would deliberately and intentionally create trouble and expressed so...

EVALUATING 2009 (9)

Dubroom Online, Edition December 10 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition December 10 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (9)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 10 2009 - Where on the old Dubroom Message Boards there were a lot of people who simply registered without ever posting a thing, this is no longer necessary or even possible on the new boards.

Because people are manually added to the membership list, they logically have to apply. Simply creating an account at Yuku is just step one in this two-step process. I see the very same phenomenon of people registering without posting, as I observe how people register but do not apply.

Anyway, there's a nice side-effect.

Even though the measure is there to prevent automatic registrations of "spam-bots", it does also prevent most "trolls" or cyber bullies from being able to mash up a thread or even complete fora with their dung.

EVALUATING 2009 (8)

Dubroom Online, Edition December 9 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition December 9 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (8)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 9 2009 - Where the ones who regularly posted on the old Dubroom Message Boards did find their way to the new one and the amount of postings is heading towards the "old level", well over 1100 members did not.

These ones were -for the most part- people who registered themselves but never posted a thing. Some did it to stay up-to-date with a particular thread, but not everyone. Especially not since it was no longer necessary to register at Xsorbit for people who wanted to subscribe to a mailing list.

The phenomenon doesn't take place at the new boards, simply because there is an application process in which the administrator (that would be me) has to manually add people to the membership list.

In other words: simply registering doesn't provide the possibility to post.
