PROMOTING CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE DANCE

Dubroom Online, Edition September 11 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition September 11 2009

"PROMOTING CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE DANCE" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 11 2009 - Dancehall isn't exactly that part of Reggae Music which is loaded with, let's say, conscious lyrics. If it isn't pornographic, we got violence as a popular topic and of course everything is not just preached, but practiced as well...

It's actually quite simple. The more slackness is promoted, the more this is also practiced. The more Consciousness is promoted, the more Consciousness will be practiced.

Of course, promoting Consciousness doesn't mean that we don't have to be "churchically correct" or "political correct" at all. It "just" means, that we have to be conscious in whatever it is we are doing.

Conscious when we are building our carreer as a female Dancehall vocalist, for example. Like Lady Shelly, whose free MP3 album should really be downloaded by every self-respecting Dancehall fan.

LADY SHELLY (DUBROOM ARTIST PAGE)

After her massive success in the 1990's with hits on several dance labels, Lady Shelly returned from Montreal to Jamaica where she re-launched her carreer as a much needed, more-than-conscious Dancehall Singer/DJ.

Her refusal to compromise with the often disgusting "rules" in the Music Industry has not stopped her from producing hits like "Kum Out", addressing domestic violence, and "Welcome To Canada", addressing the way Jamaicans are treated in Canada.

THIS IS THE DUBROOM (9)

Dubroom Online, Edition September 10 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition September 10 2009

"THIS IS THE DUBROOM (9)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 10 2009 - Thanks for your interest in the Dubroom, and also for your interest in this little column.

During the last week-and-a-day, I've been sharing a bit concerning the Dubroom, especially from my own point of view as founder, editor and main contributor.

It is a blessing to promote (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness, to maintain an independent position in order to uphold a tradition that made Reggae Music appeal to the hearts and souls of too many millions of people world wide.

It would be totally foolish to make a Reggae Website without respecting the tradition that made the Music big. In any way, it would totally eradicate the reason why this website exists.

One Love, Give Thanks,

Dubroom Online, Edition September 9 2009

"THIS IS THE DUBROOM (8)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 9 2009 - Obviously, it took a long time before the Dubroom took the shape and size that the website currently has.

The possibilities of the Internet increased significantly since the Dubroom was established online in 1997, and of course, my own experience increased as well.

It's always good to keep realizing just where you're coming from, though.

Fun, too.

It's fun to look back and read these early articles and reviews, fun also to see my own mistakes as absolute beginner among absolute beginners in these early days of the Internet.

THIS IS THE DUBROOM (7)

Dubroom Online, Edition September 8 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition September 8 2009

"THIS IS THE DUBROOM (7)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 8 2009 - In a column like this one, on my messiandread.dubroom.org website, and on the forums I express my freedom of speech under my own name, while restraining myself into professional objectivity on another.

Obviously, I'm much more experienced in this than in the time I started to review over 12 years ago now. I had to learn to refrain from words like "I", for example.

Especially when I read the earlier album reviews, it produces a smile on my face and sometime it's so terrible that I write another review instead.

I will not very likely do that with articles, though. That would be literally falsification of history.

Dubroom Online, Edition September 7 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition September 7 2009

"THIS IS THE DUBROOM (6)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 7 2009 - The Dubroom reviews (DUB) Reggae Music. All the reviewed material is at least considered "fair", which means that everything you can find here is considered to be a serious suggestion for your next addition to your Reggae collection.

The choice for the reviews is made on a number of conditions, most of which can be found in the FAQ section of the Dubroom on ask.dubroom.org.

When I write for the Babylon Observer, or when I write a review, I will restrain myself obviously more than when I write under my own name.

I have come to learn, that most people overstand and apprecilove this way of working. They know this to be a way for me to express my freedom of speech on one place, where I have and want to show professional objectivity on another one.

Dubroom Online, Edition September 6 2009

"THIS IS THE DUBROOM (5)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 6 2009 - The upholding of the tradition that (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness are connected goes hand in hand with the independent nature of the Dubroom, which is reflected in the way the site is presented.

In this column, on my website messiandread.dubroom.org, on the Message Boards, that is where I will speak my own opinion.

Opinions, even, which I know are not necessarily shared by everyone who is also keeping up with the tradition that (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness are connected.

So I have to keep certain opinions for my own space, and not have them drive, for example, my choice of music to review.

Dubroom Online, Edition September 5 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition September 5 2009

"THIS IS THE DUBROOM (4)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 5 2009 - The Dubroom keeps up with the tradition that connects (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness, while maintaining a very necessary independence to continue this position.

It drives the choice for material to review, obviously. On top of that, it also drives the way everything is presented on the site.

In this column, for example, I allow myself to write from a personal perspective.

I will however not do that without stating specifically that I am stating my own ideas here.

A thing you can see in the fact that under each column you can read how it contains my own opinion and not necessarily that of the Dubroom as a whole.
