SEE YOU IN JULY!

image

Dubroom Online, Edition June 18 - July 1 2009

"SEE YOU IN JULY!" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 18 2009 - I got some very important news yesterday. Actually, I was waiting for that news since the first day of last May.

I can't really say too much about it, if only because it has to do with some personal and private affairs and unrelated to the Dubroom.

But when everything goes the way I and I hope and pray that it goes, it will mean a giant step forward in my personal life which will have an enormous positive effect on the Dubroom as well.

I do need to spend a lot of time in the Outernet, though, and will therefore not be able to update the site every day.

In the meantime, enjoy some free music, among which is a little Dub I made, or step by in the Dubroom Message Boards.

One Love, Give Thanks,

MESSIAN DREAD - A CASE OF CULTURE (DUBROOM STAR SELECTIONS RELEASE)

click

This Steppers DUB track starts with and contains some crucial percussion. The Drum and Bass are massive, and the echo machines don't rest. Not even when all the instruments drop and the percussion only comes through via a heavy phaser.

Too technical? Possible.

In the case of DUB, one can speak about a technique, an Art, and a Culture even. A Culture where technique and Art are interchangeable, where technique is applied to express the soul.

DUB is definitely... A Case Of Culture!

THE HEATWAVE (DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW)

WWW, June 2009 - They're much more than "just" a collective of producers and DJ's hailing from the UK (London and Bristol, to be exact) releasing some very interesting material on their more than excellent website.

The Heatwave collective play it's regular gigs in Europe and the UK, writes it's articles and releases it's CD's, has very interesting people working alongside, the list goes on.

"REGGAE, MY STORY (3)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 17 2009 - Unlike most people, it was not Bob Marley through which I got my first Reggae injection. In fact, it took me a long time before I would even start to overstand just what Bob Marley was up to.

When I started to enjoy the music, just after discovering it in the early 1980's, I was struggling against my strong Christian upbringing which had -as I saw it back then- deprived me from so much.

I was in my early teens and definitely not ready to accept the fact that the Creator did not need no building so to speak, so I figured that I was basically dumped in this creation, a creation created by a Creator Who simply did not want me to be who I am, even though He was said to have created me.

This whole -rather crazy- idea was totally chanted down in the years I was about to live, and discover Reggae.

And Rasta.

Dubroom Online, Edition June 16 2009

"REGGAE, MY STORY (2)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 16 2009 - After being caught by Reggae Music, and especially DUB, I've never heard any music that even came close to the power of the Reggae Drum and Bass Lines.

It was in the early 1980's, and I remember recording a short Reggae Show on Dutch Radio that was aired every wednesday.

On top of that, Reggae was extremely populair among the "Punk" and "New Wave" audience and so Reggae Music was played a lot on the radio.

Obviously, a lot of Rub a Dub music was played, so this brought me further into discovering Reggae Music discovering new techniques for mixing.

And no, I did not make a type there...

WWW, June 2009 - Originally, the vinyl album had 6 extended tunes, but the CD version goes to no less than ten long, great Rub a Dub discomixes from the 1980's.

Not for nothing, though.

Dubroom Online, Edition June 15 2009

"REGGAE, MY STORY (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 15 2009 - There are many reasons why people get hooked on Reggae. For me, it was undoubtedly the vibe of the drum and the bass.

I remember it clearly: it was Linton Kwesie Linton Kwesie Johnson - Dread Beat and BloodJohnson's Five Nights Of Bleeding, a track from his first album called "Dread, Beat and Blood".

The track starts by LKJ saying the word "madness", followed by a short bass lick, then it repeats. When the music goes full, he chants his poem and then we get a piece of impressive Dub.

I remember what it did to me. Mystically, I knew that I was waiting for this vibe and had searched for it in other forms of music. I know, it sounds a bit crazy, but these are really the best words to describe the experience.

In the decades after that event, I have never been able to find any other music that could speak to my soul like Reggae and especially DUB do now for so many decades.

"FREEDOM OF SPEECH (3)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 14 2009 - Freedom of Speech is actually one of the foundational rights. When it is no longer there, there is no real freedom anymore.

It's Freedom of Speech that makes sure Reggae Music can be there. It is Freedom of Speech that enables people to come together and find different, better conclusions about every topic you can think of.

Freedom of Speech, however, also has sides that many would consider "inconvenient". For example, try to criticize the commercial enterprise built on "Christianity" without actually "insulting" people.

Especially people that make their money by fleecing the flock. And so, they are among the first to talk about "hate speech" and alla dat, as some ultimate argumentation to try and steal the Jah Given freedoms that every human being has.

WWW, June 2009 - Even Lee Perry's voice drops in, when the two engineers meet at the Dub Table in Ariwa Studio's. Indeed: It's time for a meet-up of Scientist and the Mad Professor and that means nothing is the way it seems.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH (2)

image

Dubroom Online, Edition June 13 2009

"FREEDOM OF SPEECH (2)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 13 2009 - Currently, there is a lot of talking in high and low places about putting "limits" to freedom of speech. And not just talking, though...

Recently, the Babylon Observer how the UK's Home Secretary published a list of people she had banned from entering the UK because of these people's opinions. She herself recently got into problems, by the way, because she had filed porno purchases of her husband as expenses.

It's surely a sign of the time, when on one hand the lust for sexual activity of about just any kind is widely considered normal but the freedom of speech is banned more and more and more.

Just why is Freedom of Speech so important?

"FREEDOM OF SPEECH (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 12 2009 - Currently, I'm working on a double interview with a fellow online artist concerning a whole lot of topics, ranging from mp3 sales to world events and a lot of things concerning the online (DUB) Reggae Artist community.

It's gonna be in-depth, obviously. One of the issues we talk about is "Freedom of Speech".

Or maybe more explicitly, the right to that freedom.

A JAH-given right, that is.

As many of our JAH-given rights are being stolen because Babylon cannot afford too much Truth Exposure, I do think it is time for conscious people to meditate a little bit deeper on the need for that freedom of speech.

OBAMA NATION (10)

image

Dubroom Online, Edition June 11 2009

"OBAMA NATION (10)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 11 2009 - Certainly, the facts show no justification of the multitude of praises to Barack Obama, and even more there is no justification for the lack of protests in "Reggae Land", so to speak.

Hardly any artist or website is critical, where there used to be quite a lot of chanting down of Babylon going on. In the meantime, Hip-Hop artists are more vocal in their critique and so it comes that we've arrived in a time where a Hip-Hop artist is quoted on the Dubroom.

I would love to see at least the start of a reasoning, of people in mediation and even debates on Reggae sites and other places concerning this matter.

In all of this, we should consider how Jah is not partial and Barack Obama perpetuates, even accelerates the policy of his predecessor George W. Bush.

"OBAMA NATION (9)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 10 2009 - The video "The Obama Deception" revealed, how Barack Obama was selected to be the successor of George W. Bush at a Bilderberg Conference.

These annual conferences are highly secretive. They have to be: this is where bankers come together with members of the press and politicians of past present and future to discuss matters "outside of the public's eye".

Increasingly, thanks to people who chant down Babylon, the Bilderbergers are exposed. The Internet has shown to be a marvelous way for the information to spread and so it has come to pass that even mainstream media have to report on the not-so-secretive-anymore conference.

Why did the Bilderbergers choose to put Barack Obama at the front?

Dubroom Online, Edition June 9 2009

"OBAMA NATION (8)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 9 2009 - A few days ago, the Babylon Observer posted a review of the video "The Obama Deception" on the website, weblogs and the forum. In it, we found two interviews with well-known Hip-Hop artists KRS-ONE and Professor Griff.

I don't know anything about Hip-Hop, to be frank. At least, not worth anything most people already know. I know that Reggae Music stood at the birth of Hip-Hop in several ways, though.

Of course there are a lot of Hip-Hop artists who've joined the ranks into praising Barack Obama into high heaven just for who he is and not for what he stands for, especially not the group of men behind him.

But is definitely was noteworthy, striking, that there seemed to be not one Reggae artist of any significance critical of Obama. It's even more striking, that this extends to the Internet where the Dubroom is really one of the few sites containing critique.

OBAMA NATION (7)

image

Dubroom Online, Edition June 8 2009

"OBAMA NATION (7)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 8 2009 - It's scary to hear, or better: not hear many of the voices within Reggae that used to protest, chant down, and expose the works of Babylon through the Bush administration.

Like many, the voices have not only silenced, but turned into voices of praise for a man who perpetuastes and accelerates that very same policy.

It can't be, that Barack Obama is the first not-completely-white president of the USA. After all, the colour of a man's skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes.

And a look to the men behind Barack Obama doesn't reveal a group of freedom fighters, who chant down Babylon.

Quite the contrary...

OBAMA NATION (6)

Dubroom Online, Edition June 7 2009

"OBAMA NATION (6)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 7 2009 - The wars in Afghanistan and especially in Iraq are widely criticized throughout the last 8 years. The Red, White and Blue invasions in the Middle-East and subsequent brutal occupation have been exposed for what they are.

On top of that, Guantanamo Bay has become the symbol of torture, euphemistically named "enhanced interrogation techniques". Then there is the secret kidnap program, when people are taken to their tortures and possible even worse, in unknown countries.

It's strange, to say the least, how all these things were rightly criticized throughout the last eight years, but when Barack Obama perpetuates the whole thing, even accelerates some, many voices of protest remain silent.

Now why would that be?

WWW, June 6 2009 - Those who have been doing a little bit of research, or simply watched the news for a while, may have noticed how Barack Obama has recently laughed away the proposal of legalizing the herb.

It's a thing which may not be the most important in life, for example it may be well understood how the bombings of innocent people in Pakistan is much more important than the freedom to light up a spliff.

Nevertheless, the "War on Drugs" has made it's millions of victims too. How many are currently in jails around the world for the simple "crime" of smoking herb? The prisons are filled with them, and none of them should be in there for the reason of herb.

Obama, however, praised by many who are in favor of legalization and sometimes even think Obama is on their side, simply laughs away the idea that herb should be legalized, in spite of his admission that legalization in high on the people's agenda.

"OBAMA NATION (4)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, June 5 2009 - In an African article, Barack Obama is described as a "wealthy American". The article describes Obama's brother George and the conditions under which he lives in a Kenyan ghetto.

The more you research, the more you discover how Barack Obama is nothing more or less than the successor of George W. Bush, who in his turn was the successor of Bill Clinton.

The people behind and around Barack Obama are the same ones who have been behind the scenes for decades, selecting presidents and policy. They're not the sufferers that looked up to Nelson Mandela when he was suffering in a South-African prison.

These are reasons, why Reggae Artists should reconsider their enthusiasm for Barack Obama. Enthusiasm for Barack Obama is enthusiasm for his political agenda.

Even those that do not watch the political news every day, or world events even, know that Obama takes back one campaign promise after the other.

And if it were only this, it would be already bad enough.

In fact, it's not even enough to say that he's continuing the Bush policy. In many instances, Obama goes even further down the road of Babylon's "New World Order".

That is, after he re-installed the military courts he had abolished just before. You know, the "courts" which give the Guantanamo Bay prisoners everything but a fair trial.
