"PROMOTING CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE DANCE" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)
WWW, September 11 2009 - Dancehall isn't exactly that part of Reggae Music which is loaded with, let's say, conscious lyrics. If it isn't pornographic, we got violence as a popular topic and of course everything is not just preached, but practiced as well...
It's actually quite simple. The more slackness is promoted, the more this is also practiced. The more Consciousness is promoted, the more Consciousness will be practiced.
Of course, promoting Consciousness doesn't mean that we don't have to be "churchically correct" or "political correct" at all. It "just" means, that we have to be conscious in whatever it is we are doing.
Conscious when we are building our carreer as a female Dancehall vocalist, for example. Like Lady Shelly, whose free MP3 album should really be downloaded by every self-respecting Dancehall fan.

ITEMS FOR THIS EDITION:
WWW, September 11 2009 - Rod Taylor riding this Mikey Dread riddim with a spiritual and heartical message as a true born Rastaman: another classic from the Dread At The Controls!
WWW, September 2009 - With tracks like "Kum Out", several mixes of "Welcome To Canada", Lady Shelly's free MP3 Album gives a good representation of her past and presence as more-than-conscious Dancehall vocalist.
After her massive success in the 1990's with hits on several dance labels, Lady Shelly returned from Montreal to Jamaica where she re-launched her carreer as a much needed, more-than-conscious Dancehall Singer/DJ.
Her refusal to compromise with the often disgusting "rules" in the Music Industry has not stopped her from producing hits like "Kum Out", addressing domestic violence, and "Welcome To Canada", addressing the way Jamaicans are treated in Canada.
WWW, August/September 2009 - From August 16 to September 30, the Dubroom presents a new track available for free download at EZTRACKS.com. Just click to listen and check it out!
