EVALUATING 2009 (3)

Dubroom Online, Edition December 4 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition December 4 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (3)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 4 2009 - The Dubroom Artist Pages -at this moment there are 85- form a brand new section of the Dubroom website, with a lot of potential.

In a way, the pages are all little websites livicated to specific artists. You'll find -of course- the links to the Dubroom reviews of the specific artists, but also biographies, press photo's and other things can be put on the mini-sites.

Given the fact that there are currently 85 artists represented, it could not only be a start of an easy way to find just what the Dubroom has reviewed of a specific artist, but in the end everything can grow out to an interesting source of information.

More tomorrow...

EVALUATING 2009 (2)

Dubroom Online, Edition December 3 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition December 3 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (2)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 3 2009 - When this period in my life wherein I had to fly up and down to another continent for two years came to an end around mid July, one relief after the other came down as everything we prayed, hoped and worked for did indeed come to pass.

Of course this has an effect on the Dubroom works, too. I did my utmost best to maintain the site and keep it running throughout that time, but now I'm back in a situation where I will find the time, the rest and all that other stuff you need in order to work on projects.

One such projects is a brand new section in the Dubroom, called the Dubroom Artist Pages. It was a long wish, but I never found the time to actually sit down and create that new section .

EVALUATING 2009 (1)

Dubroom Online, Edition December 2 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition December 2 2009

"EVALUATING 2009 (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 2 2009 - There is not one word that would describe this last calendar year, both for the Dubroom website as for me, being webmaster and also a person.

Personally I've had some of the most intense times and huge relieves after two years of working on a personal thing which involved flying to and from another continent for a period of time. I will no longer have to do this no more, which is a huge relief.

I would like to share just one experience, in order to illustrate just why it's such a relief.

The last time I flew from Amsterdam and reached my destination, it took me three hours before I could grab my luggage and move out of the airport. Not uncommon for a dread, and when you're "from Amsterdam" there are ones who just love to give you a hard time.

Dubroom Online, Edition December 1 2009

"WELCOME TO DECEMBER" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 1 2009 - Upfull greetings and welcome to the special month of December 2009, wherein a couple of special things are scheduled.

First of all (those of you who read this on the Dubroom frontpage will see him on your left side), this is the first day of the Mikey Dread special.

Every day, Jah willing, Dubroom Online will feature a free and legal MP3 file, complete with review and download link, from the Dread At The Control. Mikey Dread is also featured artist in the MP3 portal, and featured artist in the section of Dubroom Artist Pages which was started this year.

Which brings us to that other special thing for December, as this is the month in which I traditionally evaluate the last twelve months.

On top of this, we've entered into the last month of the Dubroom Online MP3 Reviews. Doesn't mean that the flow of MP3's is decreasing, though...

This, and much more, Jah Willing, in the coming 30 days.

Dubroom Online, Edition November 30 2009

WWW, November 30 2009 - Tomorrow is the first day of December, which means that Jah Willing we'll start not just with the evaluation of this last calendar year, but also with our Mikey Dread Special which lasts throughout the whole month.

It will also be the last month of our series "Dubroom Online MP3 Reviews". Don't think this is the end of the flood of free and legal MP3's, though. There's just too much material left unreviewed and I surely hope to eventually have it all mentioned on the Dubroom.

By the time you read this, unless you read this on the on the Dubroom's pre-publication forum, all the work and preparations for the month of December should have been finished, leaving me with a lot of time to maintain the site at those places where that maintained is necessary!

ITEMS FOR THIS EDITION:

TICKLAH - WANT NOT (DUBROOM ONLINE MP3 REVIEW)

WWW, November 30 2009 - In "Want Not", Ticklah approaches the sound of that other US Dub sound, created in Wackies Studio's. However, he goes further and has incorporated resemblances of Scientists better Dubs in the 1980's. The striking part is, though, that "Want Not" is not a Dub in the literal sense of the word: there's vocals from the top to the very last drop. But with a mix like this, even the hardcore Dub freaks will want to play this one. And again. And again...

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

Dubroom Online, Edition November 29 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition November 29 2009

"THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 29 2009 - The process of finding, selecting, and reviewing the best available free and legal (DUB) Reggae MP3 files is painstaking.

The first condition, if you will, is the question: Is it (DUB) Reggae (or related)?

The second has to do with the quality of the tune itself. That's where I meet The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

The Bad and The Ugly are obviously not interesting for people who love (DUB) Reggae and are looking for it.

Basically, I'm only interested in that first category: The Good. This is not just the music that you would find in your better (DUB) Reggae store, it's also the music that you can only find online: the Net Labels.

IS IT REGGAE?

Dubroom Online, Edition November 28 2009

Dubroom Online, Edition November 28 2009

"IS IT REGGAE?" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 28 2009 - I spend many, many hours to find, select and review the best free and legal (DUB) Reggae MP3 files. Quite an experience at times, both positive and negative.

The first thing I have to determine: Is It Reggae?

It's one of the more negative aspects: a lot of music is labeled as "Reggae", where it hasn't got anything to do with the music that we love so much.

Sometimes, there are like derivates or fruits of (DUB) Reggae like certain fusions of Hip Hop and Dancehall, or certain forms of electronic Dance Music, and they just might be selected because of some relevance.

In a way, this also goes in retrospect when it comes to those forms of music that predate Reggae, like Ska and Rocksteady.

EDI FITZROY - COMING UP STRONG (DUBROOM ONLINE MP3 REVIEW)

WWW, November 28 2009 - This 1980's release was considered one of the strongest tunes around when it hit the markets. Although it has this typical 1980's vibe because of the synthesizer, it's still a strong one that cannot be refused and shows why the album with the same title should be considered as your next purchase.

LOVE GROCER - STARING INTO THE DISTANCE (DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW)
